About

This site is managed by a former student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Rothberg International School. I created this site to help incoming students find the resources they need or may find helpful in order to pass their program's language requirements. Resources are added as I take and complete levels.

Rothberg's language program is divided into six levels: Aleph, Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Heh, and Vav. Each degree program requires students pass a certain level. These requirements are being revised at the moment, so be sure to check your program's requirements ahead of arrival, because the only way to pass level Dalet or higher in two years is to stay for at least one summer Ulpan.

If you buy a dictionary or verb charts, I recommend the Oxford Hebrew Dictionary and Tamir Publishers' Hebrew Verb Tables. Both are available at the campus bookstore.

How to use these resources:
First, start with the Aleph-bet software (under Resources) to learn how to read/write the Hebrew alphabet, paying attention to the cursive script. It's best that you know the alphabet before classes begin. Try practicing Hebrew typing (also under Resources), because studying with the flash cards linked here will require using a Hebrew keyboard. Then familiarize yourself with the terms here; your teachers will use them regularly in class.

To turn on the Hebrew function for your own computer, go to: Start>Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Keyboard Options>and add Hebrew to your languages. To switch between Hebrew and English, you can either hit Shift+Alt or click on the EN on your toolbar's right-hand side.

On each level page you will find links to: flash cards for a level's vocabulary, verbs, verb conjugation, preposition conjugation; and links to articles that may help you understand grammatical concepts better.
